Randi Clarke

February 12, 1938 — February 20, 2018

In Loving Memory of

Randi Sorensen Clarke
February 12, 1938 – February 20, 2018

Randi was born in Copenhagen, Denmark. Randi survived her parents and her younger brother. She moved to the United States in 1959. She met and married John W. Clarke in October 1962. Together they had five children; Roger, Ivan, Sheila, Gary and Carl. John was in the military, and as such the family moved around the country continuously. In fact, it was on one such move across the country in which Randi went into labor while on the road, so she and John pulled into the nearest military base in Alamogordo, NM where Sheila was born. Days later they continued their move. Randi was a strong woman that didn’t let any unplanned events to cause her distress.

Randi was an accomplished woman, having earned her BA from BYU and her MBA from Pepperdine University. Randi spent some time in her younger adult years working as a social worker for the Big Sister League, where she helped women recover from traumatic circumstances. Later in life Randi attended night school while raising her five children to earn her MBA and later went on to establish and run her own accounting business for over 30 years. Randi had a love for ice cream, and was known to offer anyone who ever came to her house (no matter what time of day or morning) a bowl of ice cream.

Randi spent her life helping others and contributing to those less fortunate. Even with her own business, Randi was known to work for clients who may not have had the means to pay for her services, but would instead often barter. This is also why she always had a supply of coffee, since one of her clients owned his own coffee shop and they exchanged bags of coffee for Randi’s accounting expertise.

Randi also did a lot of work for causes she believed in, such as the African American Women’s Association, local Boys and Girls Club branches, and several more. She not only donated her time, but was always donating her money to various cancer research foundations, children’s foundations, and animal rescue foundations. In fact, she was so giving that one day when she was leaving work during a rainstorm, she noticed a woman waiting for a ride and the woman did not have a coat or umbrella, so Randi gave her own coat to the woman.

In addition to all of her charitable efforts, Randi was always there for her family. Any time any family member asked for anything, Randi was there doing whatever she could to help. Randi was always polite, kind and patient with every person she encountered, no matter the circumstances. Randi loved her family above all else and was known to always have said she didn’t “want to be a burden”. Randi was a woman who dedicated her life, her work and her love to giving to others. She will be dearly missed and the world is a bit darker without her shining soul in it.

Randi is survived by her five children, fourteen grandchildren, and one great-grand child.
